The Rambam - Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon was born in Cordova,
Spain, early in the 12th century.
The Rambam fled the terrors of fanatic Muslim Almohads,
surviving with his family in the mountains of Spain for
seven years. Forced to flee again, he made his way to Fez,
North Africa, then to Israel, finally settling in Egypt.
One of the greatest of the Rishonim and Codifier of Halacha
of all time. He was also physician to the court of Saladin!
His work and fame echo down to us to this very day.
His love of Torah combined with his avid study of healing
and natural medicine, the sciences, mathematics, astronomy -
as well as the works of the classical philosophers, shaped
